Christopher Nolan’s Next Big Film

One of the best directors/ writers to grace the world of cinema, Christopher Nolan, is in the process of making his next great film. However, before that, let’s talk about who he is and why anyone should care.

Nolan born in England in 1970, has been making films for 15 years now. With a start like many others with low budgets to now where he has complete dictation of his budget to be as expensive as need be. His first outing into the world of media was a TV short in 1989 called Tarantella. IMDB credits this with a rating of 6.5/10. And now, years later, his take on Batman in The Dark Knight (2008) sits pretty as the fourth highest-rated film ever on IMDB with a rating of 9.0/10. He also has three other movies sitting within the top 50. The man is truly an accomplished director/ writer.

What We know of Production

Now in the present time, he is in the pre-production phase of working on something new for his profile. A biopic about J. Robert Oppenheimer, and his role in the development of the atomic bomb. From early understandings, the film is based on the book American Prometheus: The triumph and tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer. However, beyond a switch from his time-centric movies, he is also working under a different production company after leaving Warner Brothers behind for Universal Pictures. A move made quite recently that shocked many as Nolan have had a successful relationship with Warner Brothers prior.

The movie is predicted to release in the summer of 2023. It holds a production cost of $100,000,000. However, this is hardly as expensive as other films like the most expensive one being Pirates of the Caribbean: On stranger Tides (2011) and its whopping $379,000,000 budget. The film will also be completely shot with IMAX cameras, a staple of Nolan films. This means that the best way to experience the film is in theatres on the big screen versus at-home screening.

The Stars of the Show

Four actors have been cast already, and in true Nolan fashion, it is already a lineup ripe with potential. In the starring role as Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy returns to work with Nolan for the sixth time. His other works together are The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, and Dunkirk.

As Oppenheimer’s wife, Emily Blunt has been cast. This will be her first work with Nolan. The same can be said for the other two members cast: Robert Downey Jr. and Matt Damon who will play Lewis Strauss and Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves respectively.

Nolan and his reputation will pull many eyes to his upcoming biopic. Will you be adding the film to your watchlist like many others already have?
